MISSION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Fire Marshal's Office mission is to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of it's residents and visitors through public education and
the enforcement of applicable codes.

Enforce applicable codes to assure the health and safety of Town residents and visitors

To serve as a source of of fire prevention and public safety materials and to provide education programs for
     organizations upon request.

Protect business interests through the use of public education and the fair and consistent enforcement of
     fire prevention and building codes.

To maintain records of existing buildings and businesses (excluding on and two family dwellings and exempt
     agricultural buildings) for compliance including fire safety and other related issues.

To issue permits in accordance with requirements of the Fire Code of NYS and the Code of the Town of Riverhead
     (Public Assembly, Hazmat Storage, Hazmat Use, etc.)

To enforce codes regarding commercial buildings and property that are in disrepair and not properly maintained
     secure and to pursue enforcement actions (Chapter 54) at the direction of the Town Board.

To assist in Town safety policies related to fire safety and other safety related programs.

To provide professional and technical support to the Volunteer Fire Departments in the Town of Riverhead through
     fire prevention programs, the review of site plans, building plans and inspections of new and existing commercial
     buildings, complete and accurate fire investigations, and provide hazardous material technical assistance.

To continue to jointly work with Suffolk County and neighboring townships to address the problem of juvenile firesetters.
