Member Theresa Jackson
As a volunteer on the Committee I learn about our community and what it has to offer the
handicapped residents and visitors. It helps me bring back information relevant to the
members of the Center I participate in. The Committee gives me an opportunity to be part
of Town efforts to develop even more programs that assist the handicapped. I love
the monthly meetings and look forward to helping to make a difference.
Member Leonora Spivak
I am Leonora Spivak, part of the Riverhead Handicapped Committee, with a physical
disability. I have lived in Glenwood Village for the past 8. 5 years and also participate
in other Community volunteer organizations. Some of my goals for the Committee work
include:
Increase
awareness of what options are available to better the lives of those with any disability
Create website
access, but also develop other means of communication for those who do not
have computers
Enlist a few more
members for our Committee
Member and Chair Remy M. Bell
I have lived in Riverhead for over 20 years and simply want to give back to
the Community I call home. In the mid-eighties my mother started to have problems with leg
ulcers and had a hard time getting around with the pain; she began to use a four-legged
cane. Her condition continued to deteriorate, and she began to require first a walker,
then a wheelchair. My mother lived with me and I witnessed firsthand the difficulties a
person with a handicap has getting around and wanted to make changes for the better. That
is why I am on the Handicapped
Advisory Board- to make a difference. My mother passed on in 2002 and I do this in her
memory.
