Purpose: Official Records Keeper of the Town. The Town Clerk's Office is considered the center of Town Government. It is responsible for recording activities of the Town Government, and it is the central place in which are filed the documents and papers vital to the lives of the townspeople.

Please Be Advised:  Riverhead requirements are as follows:

Two (2) forms of identification are required.
Applicants are required to bring current STATE ISSUED PHOTO I.D. (driver's license or state I.D. card) AND CERTIFIED Birth Certificate.

THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

Certified copies of divorce or death decrees on ALL previous marriages are also required.   There are no exceptions.

The fee for a marriage license is: $40.00  (CASH ONLY)

Certified copies of marriage certificates are $10.00 (CASH ONLY)

All applicants born in the Town of Riverhead may obtain a certified copy of their birth certificate from this office.  If you were not born in the Town of Riverhead you may obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate from the Town in which you were born.

Applicant must provide a one of the following : Valid Drivers License, State Issued ID or Valid Passport

The fee for a certified birth certificate is $10.00 (CASH ONLY)

The only persons able to obtain a certified copy of a Death Certificate are:

Spouse, Parent, Child or Informant -

A certified copy of a Death Certificate will be issued for someone who passed away in the Township of Riverhead.  Proof of relationship to the decedent must be provided.

Copies of certified death certificates are $10.00 (CASH ONLY)

The Town of Riverhead issues Fishing and Hunting Licenses and may be obtained M-F 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.  Cost of Licenses vary. (CASH ONLY)

Dog Licenses - Visit NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets for more information

If you harbor a dog in the Town of Riverhead you must obtain a License. Proof of documentation
Valid Rabies Certificate, Spay/Neuter certificate if applicable.

Spayed/Neutered:        $  5.00 (CASH ONLY)

Yard Sale Permit -   Visit Town Code Chapter 108-58.1 for more information
                                              

A. Yard sales, attic sales, garage sales, auction sales or similar types of sales of personal    property owned by the occupant of the premises and located thereon are subject to the following requirements:

(1) No signs, except one on-premises sign and one off-premises directional sign, not larger than six square feet in size, displayed for a period of not longer than one week immediately prior to the day of such sale, shall be permitted.

(2) The hours, location on the site and methods of operation will cause no unreasonable disturbance to the neighborhood.

(3) The premises will be cleared of trash and debris and all signs erected will be removed the same day as the sale by sunset.

(4) Not more than three days of such sales shall be conducted on any lot within any calendar year.

(5) To accommodate emergency vehicle access, the premises where the yard sale is to occur must be located on and abut a road that is at least 33 1/2 feet wide or otherwise the premises must provide off-street on-site parking for all patrons.

B. Registration; fee.

(1) Prior to any operator holding such sales within any calendar year, such operator must register the dates and location with the Town of Riverhead.
 
(2) A registration form shall be obtained therefor from the Town Clerk.
 
(3) A fee of $5 shall be required for each permit issued.
 
C. Enforcement; violations and penalties.

(1) The Ordinance Inspector shall enforce the provisions of this section.

(2) Each violation of the provisions of this section shall be punishable by a fine of not less than $50 nor more than $500 per offense, with each day that a violation exists considered as a separate offense.

Peddlers Permit -   Visit Town Code Chapter 84 for more information

It shall be unlawful for any peddler or solicitor to sell or dispose of or to offer to sell or dispose of any goods, wares or merchandise within the Town of Riverhead or to solicit or act as a solicitor from door to door within the Town of Riverhead without first registering with the Town Clerk of the Town of Riverhead as provided in this Article and obtaining the license prescribed.

Shall include only the games known as "merchandise wheels" and such other specific games as may be authorized by the Board, in which prizes are awarded on the basis of a designated winning number or numbers, color or colors, symbol or symbols determined by chance, but not including games commonly known as "bingo" or "lotto" which are controlled under Article 14-H of the General Municipal Law and also not including slot machines, bookmaking, policy or numbers games and lottery as defined in § 225.00 of the Penal Law. No game of chance shall involve wagering of money by one player against another player.

Handicapped Parking Permit

New York State Handicap Parking Permits can be obtained in the Town Clerk’s Office for Town of Riverhead Residents.  You must come to the office and provide a valid Doctor's note.
